Colonoscopy is recommended for 50+ people every three tears. ‘Colon Resection Surgery' is used to correct the following colon diseases:

                        Volvulus or Twist

Two surgery procedures are used to do the colon resection

Laproscopic Colon surgery – 3-6 small incisions are made in order to passage a camera, surgical tools to hold the tissue and surgical instruments near colon section in question. Carbon dioxide gas is used to inflate the space near surgical area. This advanced method allows minimum scars, pain, and less recovery time.

Open Surgery - A large incision is done. It is painful, leaves large scars, and recovery time is high. Open surgery is needed when pictures sent by camera on the monitor is not good/clear enough to do a successful surgery.

Nowadays Laproscopic Colon surgery is the preferred method. General pre-surgery, real time surgery and post surgery procedures are described below:

Pre-Surgery

. Colonoscope, CT scan, Blood test, Electrocardiogram (EKG)

. Get the prescribed laxatives and antibiotic.

. Take antibiotics and laxatives night before (this clears the stomach and rectum) as per instructions. Take bath on morning of surgery day.

 Day of Surgery

Surgical area will be inflated using carbon dioxide gas. The diseased section of the colon shall be clamped, cut and removed. The remaining two open sections shall be stitched together. Following the anti infection procedure the incisions shall be stitched.

The patient shall come out of anesthesia. The patient shall be in the recovery room. Pain relief medication to be used after surgery shall be prescribed.

. 3-5 days for Laproscopic Colon surgery
